It looks like Sony wants to have tighter integration between its different entertainment properties. This likely means close cooperation between its movie-making business and the PlayStation. The drive to strike up this integration is likely part of its internal program called “One Sony”. Let’s check out everything we know around the different shows and movies based on Sony PlayStation video games here.

Sony PlayStation video game-based TV shows and movies in the works, details

A report from Media Post outlined the first set of information around the different PlayStation video game-based movies and shows. Focusing on the numbers, Sony is currently developing seven different TV shows and three movies. Tony Vinciquerra, the CEO and Chairman for Sony Pictures also issued a statement as part of the report. Vinciquerra stated, “We have no specific plan yet, But we have a program within the company called One Sony... You’ll be seeing a lot more integration of Sony companies together.” We have already seen reports regarding the upcoming Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland and a possible The Last of Us TV show. However, it is unclear if Sony Pictures has included these two titles in the figures.

Vinciquerra also noted that it does not plan on switching to “the day-and-date release business”. For some context, as part of this model, a company releases the movies in theaters and streaming services on the same day. He noted that the industry needs a 30-day window for release in theaters and streaming services. Sony believes that this window will allow the company to make money during two different windows.

The report did not share any information on the rest of the video game-based titles. For some context, Sony launched its PlayStation Productions in 2019. In addition, the studios has likely kick-started the “production on its first slate of projects”. Finally, the company and the production house are likely taking “a lot of inspiration” from Marvel Studios. We may likely see content on Horizon Zero, God of War, and other video game franchises in the future.
