Steam breaks records: 10 million players in-game for the first time and over 33 million concurrent players over the weekend
Valve’s game distribution platform has been reaching new heights ever since the pandemic era.
Steam has just broken the record for the most concurrent in-game players as well as concurrent online users over the weekend. Valve’s game distribution platform Steam had 10 million players gaming through their platform. Moreover, Steam had over 33 million concurrent online users at its peak during the weekend.
Steam breaks concurrent and in-game users record
Valve’s Steam platform has crossed the 10 million in-game users mark for the first time since the service began in 2003. The platform has been reaching new heights ever since the pandemic era. Steam managed to set the record of 20,313,451 concurrent users in March 2020 and that number only kept increasing until it became 30 million in March 2022.

Over the weekend, Steam had the highest peak of 33,078,963 concurrent users on Sunday (via SteamDB). Concurrent players are users that were online on Steam but weren’t necessarily playing a game. As for the peak in-game players count, Steam had 10,284,568 million players in one or the other games.
Top games on Steam during record-breaking weekend
Speaking of games, here are the top games being played over the weekend, ranked by player count.
Counter-Strike was top of the list with over 1 million concurrent players during the weekend. DOTA 2 stood second with a peak 766,096 player count. None of those two come as a surprise as they continue to remain extremely popular PC games.
The list gets interesting when it comes to the third spot. Goose Goose Duck is the third most popular game over the weekend with 605,694 players. This free-to-play multiplayer game is inspired by Among Us and is even more popular than the game it drew inspiration from.
PUBG: Battlegrounds had 450,151 in-game concurrent players peak over the weekend. Apex Legends had a peak of 372,374 players.
