The latest Need For Speed game will reportedly be released in November

The game by Criterion Games might be for next-gen only. Check out everything we know so far about the upcoming game in the NFS franchise.

Electronic Arts are working on the next game to add to the racing game series. A recent report has come in that suggests the game is likely to release in November this year. The game will not be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox One, as per the report from VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb on his show Giant Bomb.

EA COO Laura Miele had earlier stated that the latest NFS game would indeed support the old-gen consoles (Xbox One and PlayStation 4). As per the latest update, EA has decided to switch to creating next-gen racing games for the NFS series. She had also mentioned that the release date would now be for March 2023 but the current reports suggest otherwise.

Grubb also mentioned that the next NFS game will most likely release in November. He wasn’t sure about the next bit but stated that the game’s map could be set in Miami. There’s been no mention from EA and him about a PC version. However, it is likely that the game would be released for PC via EA’s Origin launcher. Steam would also have the game on its platform through EA Play.

The game was delayed since the studio needed to divert resources to Battlefield 2042. EA gave the charges to Criterion Games to make the next Need For Speed game which was pulled from the project to help DICE studio with Battlefield 2042. The developer has previously worked on two NFS titles namely Need For Speed: Most Wanted (2012) and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010). Both the games carried the name from previous successful titles by EA in the franchise but did not manage to create the same impact.

Criterion Games will be taking over responsibility from Ghost Games which has worked on the last four Need For Speed Games. EA’s Ghost Games has solely worked on just four games in its existence, all of which are NFS titles. They also did support work alongside Criterion Games for Battlefield 2042. Rivals, Heat, Need For Speed and Payback were developed by Ghost Games. EA is looking to turn Ghost Games into an engineering support studio now and would also be reverting its name back to the original EA Gothenburg name.
