Game publisher Square Enix has just announced a new Lara Croft game along with a short video teaser. This new game is called “Tomb Raider Reloaded” and it will arrive on smartphones in 2021. It is the first Lara Croft game to land in the market after the launch of Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018. Beyond the name and launch date, the teaser hinted at a different look than most games in the past. The publisher also noted that Emerald City Games and the mobile team at Square Enix London will develop the game. Let’s check out the rest of the details around Tomb Raider Reloaded and the teaser video here.

Tomb Raider Reloaded announced, details

Looking at the announcement, the video teaser likely hinted at the direction the game will take. Square Enix stated that the game will be free-to-play and target the action arcade genre. Some of the most popular action arcade games on the smartphone include Dead Cells, and Call of Duty: Mobile. The list also includes GRID Autosport, Into the Dead 2, Shadowngun, Sky Force, Xenowerk, Brawl Stars, Crossy Roads, and more. Given that most Lara Croft games feature multiple locations in the game, it is likely that we may see a similar thing here. The 41-second video teaser hints that the player will fight T-Rex-looking dinosaurs, wolves, golems, giant spiders, and traps. We saw that the game will feature the usual elements of gun-shooting, ancient ruins, and puzzles. These elements do indicate that the game may not be a lighter take on the Lara Croft story.

In the past, we have seen other Lara Croft smartphone games including Lara Croft Go and Tomb Raider: Relic Run. Emerald City Games has previously worked on “Lionheart: Dark Moon”, an RPG (Role-Playing Game) filled with in-app purchases. It is possible that Tomb Raider Reloaded may be a similar in-app purchase filled title. It is also likely that Square Enix may launch a smartphone remake of the original Tomb Raider game from 2013.
