Some new information has emerged online regarding one of the latest AAA video games to launch in the market. The game we are talking about here is Watch Dogs: Legion developed by Ubisoft Toronto and published by Ubisoft. Looking at the information, it appears that the source code of the game has leaked online. This information about the hack is ironic at best as Watch Dogs: Legion is the third game in the Watch Dogs series. For some context, the Watch Dogs franchise revolves around hacktivism, and protest oppressive powers. Let’s check out the latest we know around the Watch Dogs: Legion from Ubisoft here.

Watch Dogs: Legion source code leak, details

Checking the details, it appears that a ransomware group “Egregor” got access to the internal networks of Ubisoft and CryTek. The initial reports around this hacking attempt made waves about 2-3 weeks back. According to a report from DSOG, the group first leaked important documents regarding upcoming Crytek games. These documents indicate that the company “may be working on several new projects including Crysis Next”, along with Crysis VR. The company may also be working on an unannounced “Ryse” game, “Robinson: The Journey 2” and a mobile version of “Hunt”. It is also worth noting that the company may have canceled some of the titles since the initial hack. For some additional context, Crysis Next was supposed to be a Battle Royale game.

Just hours after the Crytek data leak, “Egregor” leaked the source code of Watch Dogs Legion. The 560GB source code dump is available on multiple private trackers. This source code may not be of any direct use for the average gamer. However, this will likely increase the number of game mods and possible optimizations. Beyond the mods and optimizations, cracking groups may also use the source code to crack the anti-piracy measures.

It is worth noting that we have not seen any crack for the game on the internet. We will have to wait and wait to observe any impact the leaked source code has on the speed of the release of a cracked version of the game. It is also interesting to note that Egregor had revealed that it managed to access the source code of the game. Looking back, the group had warned that if Ubisoft does not initiate contact, it will start posting the source code and the engine. India Today Gaming reached out to Ubisoft for a statement regarding the incident, but the company is yet to provide one.
