Kaori Yuki's Tokyo Chronos is heading into its final arc. The manga, set after Angel Sanctuary, explores new characters and themes with gothic flair. Volume 4 is now available as the story builds toward its climactic battle.
Angel Sanctuary: Tokyo Chronos, the new manga by Kaori Yuki, is approaching its climax. Official web magazine Hana Yume Ai announced that the tale is heading toward its climactic battle. The news coincides with the launch of the series' fourth bound volume.
A New Story Set After the Original
Released in April 2022, Tokyo Chronos tracks Kuon Kanae, a junior high school student with an uncanny ability. He occasionally notices feathers budding out of people's backs, and occasionally, apparitions of black letters in the sky. His life is transformed when there's an enigmatic incident in Tokyo with a shower of white feathers.
Though the series takes place after the events of Yuki’s earlier Angel Sanctuary, the creator confirmed it stands as a separate narrative. It introduces new characters and situations while still holding a connection to the world fans are familiar with. Readers do not need to know the original story to follow this one, but long-time followers may recognize thematic echoes and symbolic imagery that link the two.
The first Angel Sanctuary manga published between 1994 and 2000 in Hana to Yume magazine consisted of 20 volumes. The series had a complex plot that involved angels, reincarnation, and the love that was not allowed. The series also had a three-part original video animation that came out in 2000 and was later published in English by Central Park Media before it was picked up by Media Blasters.
Legacy of Kaori Yuki's Works in English
Kaori Yuki’s influence reaches far beyond Japan. Her work has consistently been brought to English-speaking readers. Viz Media translated and published all 20 volumes of Angel Sanctuary along with two official artbooks. The publisher also released Yuki’s other series such as Count Cain, Godchild, and Fairy Cube.
Yen Press has published Demon from Afar and Alice in Murderland, while Kodansha Comics released Beauty and the Beast of Paradise Lost. With Tokyo Chronos now nearing its conclusion, fans of Yuki’s unique storytelling and gothic art style are eagerly awaiting how this chapter will end.
