Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 breaks Japan’s box office records with Akaza’s return, earning ¥5.9B in a historic opening weekend

The Demon Slayer movie came back again, and it is already smashing the box office in Japan. The new Demon Slayer movie, "Infinity Castle Part 1: Akaza Return," came out in theaters on July 18, 2025, and it broke all the old records.

On the first day, the movie earned around ¥1.5 billion ($10 million), beating the record that was held before by Mugen Train. But some people say maybe it’s even more, near ¥1.75 billion ($11.75 million). That number is now the biggest one-day income in Japan for any movie, not just anime.

After that, it kept going up. Saturday made another ¥1.75 billion, and Sunday went even higher with ¥2.2 billion ($14.8 million). This Sunday's total, it's the biggest ever in Japan history for one day. Altogether, the movie collected ¥5.9 billion ($40 million) in just the weekend, breaking all record.

Infinity Castle Start New Era for the Series

Infinity Castle is not like the last two movies, which were more like recaps. This one adapts a full story arc, from manga’s “Infinity Castle” part. Fans have been waiting a long time for this, and now they are seeing the real story on the big screen.

The film was directed by Haruo Sotozaki, same guy as before. Animation studio Ufotable handle it again, and quality is very high. This is just part one from a three-movie series. Aniplex and Toho are in charge of distribution. It is going to be released in other Asian countries in August and then go global in September.

Before this, Mugen Train had huge success, making $506 million worldwide, $386 million just from Japan. It is still number one for anime film earning. But now some are wondering, can Infinity Castle beat even that?

Whatever happens next, one thing is already clear. Demon Slayer is not slowing down. Fans are still excited, theatres are still full, and records keeps breaking. This franchise shows again why it's the most biggest thing in the anime world right now.
