Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is back in Irish and UK cinemas on May 14–15 with special 4K screenings. Experience the record-breaking anime film in English dub and sub formats during this limited theatrical re-release.
Irish and UK fans can get one of the greatest anime movies ever produced when Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train comes back to cinemas. Special and 4K showings will be taking place on Wednesday, May 14, and Thursday, May 15. English-dubbed and English-subtitled showings will be available, with most theaters showing dubbed films early evening and subtitled ones late at night.
A Worldwide Box Office Sensation
Originally released in Japan in October 2020, Mugen Train swiftly broke records. It dominated the Japanese box office for 12 consecutive weeks and became the first film to reach 40 billion yen in box office sales. It was also the highest-grossing movie in the world in 2020—a world first for a non-Hollywood production. It was the first time in more than 100 years of international cinema that a non-American film led the world box office for a calendar year.
A Franchise With Increased Momentum
Later, the film was also spun off into a seven-episode television arc that was broadcast during October 2021 under the name Mugen Train Arc. This lengthened the narrative for TV viewers but preserved the impact of the movie.
The anime adventure of Demon Slayer started in April 2019 with season one, based on Koyoharu Gotouge's manga. Tanjiro Kamado is a boy who has a compassionate heart and whose family is slaughtered by demons. His little sister Nezuko is also converted into a demon. Tanjiro is motivated by the need to save her and avenge his family and joins the Demon Slayer Corps.
After the popularity of the initial season and movie, the Entertainment District Arc aired in December 2021. The Swordsmith Village Arc followed in April 2023 and lasted for 11 episodes. The most recent was the Hashira Training Arc, which aired between May and June 2024, beginning and ending with an hour-long episode. Crunchyroll broadcast every new season when it first aired, boosting the series' ongoing international popularity.
With Mugen Train back in cinemas, fans have another opportunity to experience a landmark anime feature on the big screen.
