Teen romance meets phantom thievery in this supernatural anime adventure.
Anime fans now get to experience a retro gem from the early 2000s all over again because D.N. Angel is now part of the Crunchyroll library. The entire 26-episode fantasy-romance series is now available to stream with the original Japanese audio. English, Spanish, or Portuguese subtitle options are now available, allowing the series to be streamed by international audiences.
Originally broadcast in 2003, D.N.Angel is a manga of the same title by author Yukiru Sugisaki. The anime was produced by Studio Xebec and features supernatural action and teen romance. The release by Crunchyroll includes regions like North America (excluding French-speaking Canada), South America, South Africa, the United Kingdom, the Nordic nations, Australia, and New Zealand.
A Double Life Uncovered
At the center of the narrative is Daisuke Niwa, an otherwise ordinary teenager whose life is turned upside down overnight when he discovers a centuries-old family secret. When Daisuke becomes infatuated—specifically with his classmate Risa Harada—Dark Mousy, a legendary phantom thief, takes over Daisuke involuntarily. Dark doesn't steal for cash, however. His mysterious robberies are only a small part of an even larger plot, one that catches the attention of Satoshi Hiwatari, a genius who is not only a classmate but a relentless tracker.
This combination of fantasy, romance, and identity crisis offers a new storyline that captivated viewers who first saw it and continues to intrigue people today.
Production Team and Legacy
The anime was guided by Nobuyoshi Habara, who is best known for directing Fafner. Naruhisa Arakawa was the responsible series composer, and Shinichi Yamaoka was responsible for the designs. Tomoki Hasegawa and Takahito Eguchi were the composers of the music, which accompanied the dramatic and emotional scenes in the series.
D.N.Angel has been out of print for years, having been licensed in the past by ADV Films and later released on DVD by Discotek Media. That one is no longer in print, however. Its new availability on Crunchyroll offers a new opportunity for long-time and new fans alike to enjoy the series's exploration of love, duality, and self-discovery.
