A food-loving mascot who travels Japan tasting dishes on a popular streaming show.

The ongoing spring 2025 anime Food for the Soul has introduced a new character trailer featuring Mokotaro, a fan-favorite from a fictional food-themed streaming show within the series. This comes after character previews for the five main girls. The trailer is now available on Aniplex's official YouTube channel.

Mokotaro appears in Mokotaro Eat Meal, Mako's favorite program in the anime. He travels across Japan tasting and reviewing regional dishes. The character is voiced by Azuki Moeno, a former idol from the group Erabareshi and known for her appearances in competitive eating contests. His cheerful and adventurous nature adds to the show’s cozy and food-loving charm.

Creative Team and Production

Food for the Soul is an original anime with character concepts and story developed by Atto, the creator of Non Non Biyori. Shinya Kawatsura and Toru Shunsui co-direct the series at studio P.A.WORKS. Yoshihiro Hiki handles the series composition, while Hajime Mitsuda adapts Atto’s designs for animation. The music is composed by Hitomi Mizutani.

The opening theme, “Sonna Mon ne,” is performed by singer asmi, while Reira Ushio's 2023 song “Miso Soup and Butter” serves as the ending theme.

The series began airing in Japan on April 12. Crunchyroll is streaming it globally, except in Japan, China, Korea, and Mongolia.

A warm and tasty story full of comfort and good food

The story follows Mako, a shy university student living on her own for the first time. She finds comfort in cooking and recreates recipes she sees on gourmet shows. Too nervous to eat out alone, Mako joins a campus food club where she makes new friends. Through shared meals and culinary adventures, she begins to open up and enjoy life beyond her kitchen.

With warm storytelling and a focus on food and friendship, Food for the Soul continues to deliver heartfelt moments and appetizing visuals each week.
