Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary Anime Trailer Released: What to Expect from This Unique Ghost Story

Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary is a unique anime about a 5-year-old ghost fighter, blending creepy and funny moments with a strong cast and creative team

There’s a new anime called Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary, and they just released a trailer. And honestly, it’s not like the normal school anime you see. It’s kinda creepy, but also funny? The trailer also showed who’s gonna voice the main characters and the staff working on it. But they didn’t say when it will come out, so we are still waiting to find out.

Azusa Tachibana is the voice of Kaya-chan, a little girl who can see ghosts. And Maaya Uchida will be Chie-sensei, Kaya’s new teacher who finds out her big secret. Just imagine that — dealing with ghosts in kindergarten! Sounds wild, right?

The Team Behind the Madness

The director is Hiroshi Ikehata, who worked on Dark Gathering before, so he probably knows how to handle spooky stuff pretty well. The animation is done by East Fish Studio, which isn’t super famous, but maybe this show will change that?

The series is written by Shigeru Murakoshi — you might know him from Ninja Kamui or Apocalypse Hotel, both kinda intense shows. Character designs are by Taro Yamada and Hiroyuki Moriguchi. The latter also did designs for The Daily Life of a Middle-Aged Online Shopper in Another World (yes, that’s a real name).

Music is made by two composers, KOHTA YAMAMOTO and Shun Narita. KOHTA worked on Attack on Titan Final Season, so expect some dramatic or emotional music, not just silly tunes.

This anime is based on a manga by Yuritaro, which is still ongoing. The 7th volume comes out June 9 in Japan. If you don’t read Japanese, don’t worry, Seven Seas Entertainment has the English version out.

Kaya’s Story: A Little Girl Who Fights Ghosts

The story is about Kaya, a 5-year-old girl everyone thinks is a troublemaker at school. But actually, she’s saving people from ghosts… by punching them, seriously. One day her new teacher finds out what’s really going on, and then they kinda team up? Sort of? Kaya keeps getting into trouble while trying to help. It’s weird but also kinda heartwarming.

With ghosts, a kindergarten hero, and some solid people making it, this anime might turn out better than expected. It’s not really horror, and it’s not just comedy either — it’s somewhere in the middle.

So yeah, if you want something different from usual school or fantasy anime, maybe check out Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary when it finally drops. Whenever that will be.
