Lupin the IIIrd Prequel Episode Unveils Main Trailer and Character Details

Zenigata hunts a deadly impostor in the Lupin III prequel airing June 20, 2025.
A new trailer has been released for Lupin the IIIrd: Zenigata to Futari no Lupin, a prequel web episode to the upcoming movie Lupin the IIIrd the Movie: Fujimi no Ketsuzoku ("The Immortal Bloodline"). This episode will stream in Japan starting June 20, 2025, ahead of the film’s theatrical release.
The trailer introduces an exciting new character known as "Fake Lupin" (Nise-Lupin), voiced by Kenyu Horiuchi (Wilhelm van Astrea in Re: ZERO). The character looks identical to the real Lupin but is much more ruthless. In the video message released by TMS Entertainment, Horiuchi shared that Fake Lupin is a cold-hearted mastermind behind a series of bombings. He described the role as a dream come true, even calling it one of the most defining performances of his career.
Broadcast Details and Returning Creators
Following its digital debut, the episode will air on June 22 on WOWOW, a Japanese satellite TV channel. It will be accompanied by a broadcast of the three previous Lupin the IIIrd installments: The Gravestone of Daisuke Jigen (2014), Goemon's Blood Spray (2017), and Fujiko Mine's Lie (2019).
The prequel brings back the full creative team from the upcoming film. Director Takeshi Koike, writer Yuya Takahashi, composer James Shimoji, and creative advisor Katsuhito Ishii are all returning for the episode, maintaining the continuity of the cinematic vision.
Plot Overview
The story centers on a bombing at an airport in the Soviet Union, a fictional icy region. Initial evidence points to Lupin the Third as the main suspect. However, the Lupin captured by Inspector Zenigata denies responsibility. Zenigata is stuck between two versions of Lupin. He must find out who the real criminal is and stop the chaos.
