Me & Roboco Anime Film to Debut in Taiwan This June

The Me & Roboco anime film will open in Taiwan cinemas on June 13, after its Japan release on April 18. The film was originally to open during the winter of 2024, but was delayed to make way for quality improvements. When it opened, it opened at number four on the Japanese box office and collected over 62 million yen (about US$442,500) in its opening weekend.

The film introduces a new narrative twist, with a multiverse plot. The change offers another layer to the already bizarre and humorous world that was initially depicted in the original manga by Shūhei Miyazaki.

Me & Roboco Anime Film: Returning Crew and Comedic Artists Join the Production

Akitarō Daichi, who also directed the previous TV adaptation, directs the movie. Studio Gallop is in charge of the production. Michihiro Satō is the assistant director, while Sayuri Ooba oversees the scriptwriting. The animation staff includes Yūko Ebara for character design, prop design by Yoshihiro Sato, and Manami Koyama as art director. Other staff members include Ayami Minowa as color designer, Rena Tanimoto as director of photography, Masafumi Kajino as editor-in-chief, and Kazuya Tanaka as sound director.

Comedian Shōhei Osada lends his voice to Dai Kanbu (Mr. Top Brass), a powerful newcomer to the cast. Osada and Roboco's voice actor, Shun Matsuo, who appears in a comedy duo with him under the name Chocolate Planet, brings a special comedic style to the production. Ano performs the theme song for the movie, "Lolilokkyun Robo.".

The initial TV anime series began airing on TV Tokyo and affiliates from December 2022 to June 2023. The series employed very brief five-minute episodes, which were known for being quick-moving, having comedic humor, and having a strange, oddball charm.

With a mix of slapstick, sci-fi elements, and a new multiverse storyline, Me & Roboco hopes to introduce its brand of humor to global audiences beginning this June.
