New Sgt. Frog Anime Movie Drops in Summer 2026: Plot, Cast & More!

Sgt. Frog makes a big comeback with a new anime film in 2026, bringing back the original cast and classic humor to celebrate its 20th anniversary

It’s really happening, Sgt. Frog is finally getting a new anime movie after so many years. They said the movie is already in production and plan to release it in Summer 2026. It’s been a very long time since the last movie came out in 2010, so this one is going to be the first proper film in 16 years. It’s part of the 20th year celebration for the anime, which began way back in 2004.

All the known characters from before are coming back again. If you remember the weird alien frog crew and their random Earth missions, then probably you already got an idea what it’s going to be. This movie is also going to stick close with the original manga by Mine Yoshizaki. Longtime fans may feel both emotional and excited about this return.

Staff Behind the Scenes

The staff list actually pretty solid this time. Yuichi Fukuda is taking on double role, he’s the chief director and also writing the script. He had worked on live-action Gintama and HK: Forbidden Super Hero before, which got mixed reviews but many liked it. Fumitoshi Oizaki is directing, and character designs are by Satoshi Koike. BN Pictures is doing the animation, so you can expect at least decent visuals, I guess.

Theme Music and Celebration Plans

To make this 20th anniversary more exciting, they got Ano, who is a popular singer and personality. She’s chosen as official campaign ambassador. She’s doing a song called “Mata Kaette Kita Kero! to March” which kind of translates to “We’re Back Again, Kero! March.” Also, she sings it along with comedian Soshina from Shimofuri Myojo. If you saw the teaser, then you already heard that song in background.

Also, they planned a livestream event on YouTube titled “Keroro Gunso no Kero! to Radio”, streaming on July 3 at 9 PM JST on Keroro Channel. Two voice actors, Kumiko Watanabe (Keroro) and Etsuko Kozakura (Tamama), going to join and talk about the teaser and behind-the-scenes stuff. Ano will also be there, maybe singing live or discussing the theme song.

The anime Sgt. Frog — or Keroro Gunso in Japan was originally made by Sunrise and aired from 2004 to 2011 on TV Tokyo. It ran for 358 episodes. The format was different, usually two short segments in one episode. It’s mostly for kids, but many adults got into it too. The show later got dubbed in English by Funimation and Animax Asia, and DVDs were released in North America.

It's really been a long time since anything big came out from Sgt. Frog, so this new movie feels like it means something. The original cast, catchy music, plus a team that know what they are doing, might bring back that old-school feeling. It could also attract fresh viewers who have never seen it before. Either way, the frogs are back, and this time, they’re ready to jump again.
