New Trailer Drops for 5 Centimeters Per Second Live Film, With Familiar Tune Back Again

  • India Today Gaming
  • July 07, 2025 (UPDATED: July 07, 2025 20:31 IST)

5 Centimeters per Second live-action film reveals trailer, cast, visuals, and October 2025 release.

So the trailer for the live-action 5 Centimeters per Second just got out now, and what everyone first notices is that the old track by Masayoshi Yamazaki — “One More Time, One More Chance” — is playing in the background again. That song has been around since 1997, and it also played back in the 2007 anime version. Now it comes back here in this live version, same feeling, same melody.

Yamazaki said he was thankful again, thinking how Director Shinkai once made the song feel new way back. Now he’s just glad Director Okuyama bringing it back. He said lots of people still love it, and he’s curious to see how this new version uses it too.

New Cast, New Visuals — Some Things Shift Around

They added five more actors this time too. Nana Mori’s gonna play Kanae Sumida — she's the girl who’s got feelings for Takaki but doesn’t say it much. Aoki Yuzu gonna play the high school Takaki. Then, Mai Kiryu shows up as Risa Mizuno, a person who works in the same office as him. Aoi Miyazaki’s got the role of Midori, Kanae’s older sis, and also a teacher. And last, Hidetaka Yoshioka plays the museum guy, Mr. Ogawa.

Also, there are two preview pics they put out. One shows Kanae looking down at the water while she is wearing a surf suit. The other has her and Takaki under a red kind of sky, not saying much but looking at each other like time stopped.

They say the movie’s gonna come out across Japan on October 10, 2025. The director is Yoshiyuki Okuyama — he made music videos for Kenshi Yonezu before. The script is by Ayako Suzuki. And Takaki, the grown-up version, is played by Hokuto Matsumura from SixTONES.

Emotional Themes Stay Intact in New Visual Style

The anime first came out in 2007, after Shinkai already made Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in Our Early Days. It’s about Takaki and Akari, two friends from school days who get split up when their families move away. Then years later, Takaki tries to meet her again, riding the train, thinking of all those old memories.

This live version is trying to bring back those same feelings. Actors now instead of drawings, and modern scenes too. But the mood, the slow time, all the things not said out loud — they're still in there, just waiting for people to come to feel it again.
