An alien's quest to spread joy turns dark in this emotional sci-fi drama.
The much-awaited anime version of Takopi's Original Sin is set to release on June 28, 2025. The six-episode show will air on popular streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, ABEMA, and more. A recently released key visual and trailer provide an even more in-depth glimpse into the series' mix of innocence, heartache, and sci-fi intrigue.
The anime has an opening theme "Happy Lucky Chappy" by singer ano, while the ending theme "Glass no Sen" ("Glass Wire") is sung by Tele. The songs are designed to reflect the light and dramatic aspects of the story.
Based on the manga by Taizan 5, Takopi’s Original Sin was originally serialized on Shueisha’s digital platform Shonen Jump+ from December 2021 to March 2022. The manga was later compiled into two volumes in Japan. English translations are available through VIZ Media and MangaPLUS.
A Cute Alien with a Tragic Mission
The novel focuses on Takopi, a pink octopus alien from Planet Happy, who comes to Earth to bring smiles. His initial contact is with Shizuka, a lost and sad fourth-grader. Desiring to see her smile, Takopi employs sophisticated devices with the ability to shape reality and time. Unfortunately, his good intentions create severe repercussions, sending both the characters into a cycle of loss, remorse, and hard decisions.
Takopi’s journey is complicated by memory loss. As he tries to remember his actual mission and purpose, the story delves into issues of empathy, sacrifice, and the extent of good intentions. It begins as a flighty tale but eventually evolves into a tremendous emotional drama.
Creative Team and Studio Behind the Series
The anime is being organized by Shinya Iino, who also handles the series composition. Character designs are being handled by Keita Nagahara, while music is composed by Yoshiaki Fujisawa. Production of the series falls under ENISHIYA, an animation company that specializes in tackling emotionally charged stories with stylistic finesse.
With its blend of warm, fuzzy charm and dark psychological undertones, Takopi's Original Sin is emerging as one of the season's most buzzed-about releases.
