Whoever Steals This Book anime film set for 2026 with fantasy, mystery, and adventure themes.
The fantasy mystery manga Whoever Steals This Book by Nowaki Fukamidori and Kakeru Sora, will be made into an anime film. It is set to release in 2026. The film’s official website and social media accounts were launched with a teaser trailer, a key visual, and information about the team making the movie.

The film will be directed by Daiki Fukuoka, who previously worked on Yuki Yuna is a Hero: The Hero Chapter. Studio Kagokan is responsible for the animation production. Yasuhiro Nakanishi, who carried out Toilet-bound Hanako-kun, is in charge of the script. Keiko Kurosawa, renowned for ASTRA LOST IN SPACE, is the character inventor and animation director. Michiru Oshima, known for Anne Shirley, will compose the original score. Additionally, Yuji Higa, the founder of Kagokan, is credited as the animation producer.
Story Synopsis
Whoever Steals This Book centers on Mifuyu, a high school student who comes from a long line of book collectors. Her great-grandfather established the well-known Mikura Hall, a library cherished by the entire town. Despite this rich heritage, Mifuyu herself does not like books. However, when a thief breaks into Mikura Hall and steals several books, an ancient curse is unleashed.
In order to save her town and bring back the stolen collection, Mifuyu must first go into the stories she actively despised before meeting Mifuyu. However, she is not working alone; she has the help of a mysterious character named Mashiro. Now they must face magical challenges and mysteries to save Mikura Hall and, more importantly, the community from a supernatural threat.
The story combines fantasy and mystery with themes like family, courage, and the power of stories. It will be an exciting adventure full of magic, suspense, and feelings.
