Yuri on ICE Season 1 streams on Hulu on June 3, 2025, with sub and dub options.

The popular figure skating anime Yuri on ICE is coming back into the limelight. Hulu will be adding the entire first season to its service on June 3, 2025—more than eight years since the series initially premiered on Crunchyroll in October 2016. It will be offered with English subtitles and dubbing, under Yuri on Ice: Complete Season 1, as part of a sublicense deal with Crunchyroll.

The anime caused ripples when it first premiered, receiving enormous attention for its heart-wrenching storytelling and first-of-its-kind emphasis on professional figure skating. The series greatly boosted the profile of studio MAPPA, attracting it to be well-known throughout the anime world. Since its premiere, Yuri on ICE has enjoyed a devoted international fanbase.

The show's return to streaming follows disappointing news about the long-awaited sequel film. Ice Adolescence, which was announced in 2017, kept getting delayed in production over the years. In April 2024, the movie was officially canceled because of "various circumstances" without giving further details.

The plot of Yuri On ICE revolves around Japanese figure skater Yuri Katsuki, who is plagued by self-doubt after a humiliating defeat. Thinking about retiring, he is suddenly approached by world champion Victor Nikiforov, who vows to train him. He is joined by breakout Russian skater Yuri Plisetsky, and together the three are at the center of a season of competition that tests them to the limits of their abilities, both physically and psychologically.

The anime was directed and scripted by Sayo Yamamoto, with story and character ideas by Mitsuro Kubo. Jun Shishido acted as chief episode director, with animation direction and design by Tadashi Hiramatsu. Taro Umebayashi and Taku Matsushiba provided music. Kenji Miyamoto choreographed real-life figure skating steps, while Eiji Abiko and Junpei Tatenaka animated them. It was produced by MAPPA.

With its return to streaming, Yuri on ICE gives old fans and new viewers a second chance to watch the show that revolutionized sports anime with elegant animation, character-driven drama, and unprecedented representation.
