The OWCS World Finals are coming to DreamHack Stockholm from November 22-24, 2024. It will feature top teams from across the globe competing for the title. Open qualifiers start on September 20 for EMEA and NA.
The Overwatch Championship Series (OWCS) World Finals is heading to DreamHack Stockholm later this year, marking the first major Overwatch 2 in-person tournament in Europe since 2018. This event will follow the success of the first OWCS LAN, which took place at DreamHack Dallas earlier in the year and saw a crowd of 55,000 fans, with a peak of nearly 130,000 viewers online.
Event Details:
- Dates: The DreamHack Stockholm event will run from November 22 to 24, 2024.
- Tournament Format: Eight teams will compete, with qualifying slots still up for grabs through open qualifiers on FACEIT, starting on September 20 for EMEA and North America. Winners will automatically secure a spot in the World Finals.
Excitement Around the Event:
- Sean Miller, the director of Overwatch esports at Blizzard, expressed excitement about the European finals, stating that the Overwatch Champions Series has exceeded expectations and that the Stockholm event will build on the success of Dallas.
- Fans attending DreamHack Stockholm will be able to engage in multiple Overwatch activations and celebrations throughout the three-day festival. Premium access to the OWCS World Finals will also be available through special ticket packages.
Competition Overview:
- The global competition is expected to be fierce, with teams vying for the honor of becoming the first-ever OWCS world champion.
- Crazy Raccoon won DreamHack Dallas earlier in the year, showcasing a roster of budding stars, including CH0R0NG, HeeSang, Junbin, LIP, MAX, and Shu.
Prize Pool:
- While the exact prize pool for DreamHack Stockholm has not yet been disclosed, DreamHack Dallas awarded $100,000 to the winners, so a similar or larger prize pool is expected for the Stockholm event.
This will be a monumental moment for Overwatch esports, as it brings the global community back to Europe for an in-person competition, and it is set to create a thrilling climax for the OWCS season.
