The Last of Us Part 3 is "in progress", confirms leaker from Sony; Here's everything new that we know about the upcoming game

The Last of Us Part III, is reportedly in development. With the success of HBO’s adaptation of Naughty Dog and Sony PlayStation’s The Last of Us , the video games are now being rediscovered. Naturally, this has given rise to a new wave of speculation about The Last of Us Part 3. Even Neill Druckmann, co-creator of both The Last of Us video games and TV series did not say anything that put these rumors to rest. And now, an insider from Sony has confirmed the presence of the project. Here’s everything we know about The Last of Us Part 3. 

The Last of Part 3 confirmed-says leaker

The news comes via The Leak. Their source from Sony has confirmed that The Last of Us Part 3 is known to be “in progress” internally. And here’s the catch, the game’s reportedly being “categorised as a Playstation 5 release with “Playstation 6 in mind”.”As for the source, The Leak vouches for its credibility given their track record with their previous tip-offs from within Sony. 

Currently, the mention of PlayStation 6 has ignited debates around the internet, but as the report explains, a AAA title takes time in development, sometimes even 3 to 4 years. Given that the PlayStation 5 launched in 2021, and it has a lifespan of 5 to 6 years, we can expect the PlayStation 6 by 2026. In case The Last of Us Part 3 has just begun development, we can expect the game’s launch around the same time. 

Naughty Dog launched The Last of Us Part 2 after 7 years of the first game in 2020. The studio was also simultaneously working on the Uncharted titles at the point of time. But now, while confirming the possibility of The Last of Us Part 3, Druckmann did mention that the studio is “moving on” from Uncharted. So maybe, Naughty Dog won’t take as long a time to make The Last of Us Part 3, as they did for Part 2. Regardless, it is safe to say that The Last of Us Part 3 is indeed coming, though we are still awaiting the official announcement.
