This Apple toolkit can let Macbook users play Window games

Apple has dropped massive news for Macbook users wanting to play Windows games on their system. During its final Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023, Apple showcased a new proton-type tool that can easily port Windows games to the Macbook. This toolkit has been powered by CrossOver which will instantly translate Windows games to the macOS enabling developers to launch an unmodified version of a Windows game on a Macbook and check how it runs on it.

Aiswariya Sreenivassan, an engineering project manager for GPUs and graphics at Apple, explained how the new toolkit will work, saying that it will provide an emulation environment for running "existing unmodified Windows game(s)" on Apple Silicon Macs and 'dramatically simplifies' the technique of translating a game's shaders and graphics code. Apple further showed a test version of the DirectX 12 game The Medium running using the latest toolbox, which appeared to function very smoothly.

Shortly after the announcement, several Reddit users started posting images and videos of playing Windows games on a Macbook. One of the Reddit users also posted a video of playing the latest Diablo IV and Hogwarts Legacy on a MacBook powered by Apple's M2 chipset. Several users also reported playing CyberPunk 2077 on the M1 chipset. 

When it comes to gaming, Apple has been massively trolled for a long period of time. Macbooks have been the first choice for graphic designers and video editors, however, for gamers, it wasn't even a choice. The introduction of the game porting toolkit would now enable gamers to play their favorite games on the Macbook. However, the optimization of several titles might persist as a major problem which might result in severe lags and bugs until developers introduce their own ports.
