Ukraine’s Government says that it will Ask Sony, Microsoft, and Valve to ban Atomic Heart, the Soviet-themed game.

Mundfish's Atomic Heart has sparked controversy because of its ties to Russia. The Ukrainian Government says that Atomic Heart should be banned by Valve, Microsoft, and Sony, further requesting the game be removed from Steam. Atomic Heart was only released last week for PC and consoles and now Ukraine has raised this concern.

Atomic Heart is a post-apocalyptic game based on Soviet and Russian military themes.

Ukraine seeks ban on Atomic Heart

The Ukrainian Government has stated that it will issue an official letter to Valve, Microsoft, and Sony requesting them to remove Atomic Heart from the digital stores in Ukraine itself. They also said the distribution of the game should be limited in other countries as well, as per the Ukrainian website dev.ua.

Ukraine's Ministry of Digital Affairs claimed that it will issue the letter owing to the "toxicity" of Atomic Heart and “the potential collection of user data information, and the possibility of their transfer to third parties in Russia”.

“Regarding the situation with the release of the game Atomic Heart, which has Russian roots and romanticizes communist ideology and the Soviet Union, The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine will send an official letter to Sony, Microsoft, and Valve requesting a ban on selling digital versions of this game in Ukraine,” says Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation, Alex Bornyakov.

He further stated, “We also urge limiting the distribution of this game in other countries due to its toxicity, potential data collection of users, and the potential use of money raised from game purchases to conduct a war against Ukraine.”

The Ukrainian Government also stated that according to the media reports, the game’s development was funded by Russian enterprises. Further stating, “Therefore, we call for all users worldwide to avoid this game”.
