Western Digital launches new SanDisk Extreme portable SSDs; price in India, specifications, and more

Data storage giant Western Digital has just launched two new SanDisk-branded products in the Indian market. Looking at the details, both these products come from the SanDisk Extreme portable SSD product lineup. The first product is the SanDisk Extreme and the second one is called the SanDisk Extreme Pro portable SSD. Both the products are aimed towards regular data storage and transfer and the company does not market them for gaming. Looking at recent announcements, the company has pushed its Western Digital Black products towards the gaming community. However, looking at the specifications, these SanDisk Extreme SSDs pack enough punch to serve gamers. Western Digital SanDisk Extreme portable SSDs announced; details

The highlight of the new SanDisk Extreme portable SSDs is likely the “nearly 2x” speed improvement claims over its predecessors. Considering that the product lineup includes external, portable SSDs, it is designed to work regardless of the location or situation. Khalid Wani, the Director of Sales at Western Digital India issues a statement as part of the launch. Wani stated, “The new SanDisk Extreme portable SSDs deliver the performance, reliability, speed, and functionality that consumers and professionals have come to expect from us.”

Jaganathan Chelliah, the Director of Marketing at Western Digital India also shared his thoughts around the launch. Chelliah noted, “With 256-bit AES hardware encryption, up to 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating for dust and water resistance, the new SanDisk Extreme PRO and SanDisk Extreme portable SSDs offer best of performance and durability in any environment.”

The company is offering both portable SSDs in several storage capacities including 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD will be available in 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB options while the Extreme Pro will be available in all options except the baseline 500GB one. Looking at the pricing, the SanDisk Extreme is available at Rs 7,999, 1TB at Rs 12,999, and 2TB at Rs 27,499. The 4TB variant will start shipping “later in April 2021” so there is no information available right now.

Extreme Pro 1TB will be available at Rs 19,999 and 2TB will sell at Rs 34,999. Similar to the regular option, the 4TB variant for the SanDisk Extreme Pro will start shipping out in April 2021. The company is also offering time-limited discounts on Amazon and Flipkart.
