Western Digital India has just announced details around a new eSports tournament called, the WD_BLACK CUP. According to the announcement, the company stated that it is teaming up with semiconductor giant AMD to organize the event. Looking at the details, the company outlined that this tournament will go on for a period of 14 days. Similar to recent WD_Black eSports tournaments, the event will feature Valorant from Riot Games and Call of Duty: Warzone. The tournament comes months after the company launched its latest WD Black storage products for gamers. Let’s check everything we know around the WD_BLACK CUP from Western Digital and AMD here.

Western Digital and AMD to host WD_BLACK CUP eSports tournament; details

Western Digital stated that the WD_BLACK CUP will include two different segments including the Invitational and the Open event. As part of the WD_BLACK CUP Invitational, Western Digital and AMD will invite the best eSports players and influences. The players will compete amongst themselves for the top spot and prizes in Call of Duty: Warzone. It is an invite-only event where 24 players will compete over two days for a chance to win Rs. 3 lakh. Moving to the Open event, anyone can register for a chance in the event to showcase their skills in Valorant. Here, about 128 teams will compete against each other for a prize of Rs. 4 lakh over a 14 day period. The invitational will be held on February 27, and 28 while the Open event will kick start on March 8.

Jaganathan Chelliah, the Marketing Director for India at Western Digital also issued a statement as part of the announcement. Chelliah stated, “With the WD_BLACK Cup we wish to bring the eco-system together to promote the gaming community and celebrate the innovations in the space with a full-throttle experience. We see increasing traction towards PC gaming that allows gamers to express their creativity and provides them with an opportunity to learn.”

Mukesh Bajpai, the India Marketing Head at AMD also shared a statement regarding the event. He added, “The esports boom is driving incredible impetus for the gaming industry in India. The growth has led to gaming become more mainstream, aspirational, and accessible with lucrative opportunities for passionate gamers.” Bajpai went on to state, “We are indeed excited about our collaboration with Western Digital in bringing the WD_Black Cup Esports Tournament to the community, which will further empower gamers to push their boundaries and experience competitive and immersive gaming.”
