Assassin’s Creed Shadows Release: Delayed to February 2025, Here’s Why

Ubisoft has delayed the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows to February 14, 2025, citing the need for extra polish. Learn about the reasons for the delay, new features like no Season Pass, and what to expect from this feudal Japan-set adventure.

Ubisoft has announced that the much-anticipated Assassin’s Creed Shadows will now be released on February 14, 2025, instead of its original November 15, 2024, date. The reason? To provide the game with some additional polish, according to an update from the developer on September 25.

Why the Delay?

The reason for the delay, according to Ubisoft, is "learnings" from their most recent game, Star Wars Outlaws, which, despite receiving favorable reviews, fell short of its sales goals. With Assassin's Creed Shadows, Ubisoft wants to make sure you have a sophisticated experience. Although the game is apparently "feature complete," the developers are taking their time to polish it before release.

No Season Pass – A Welcome Change

Ubisoft announced that the game will no longer have a Season Pass format in another noteworthy update. Rather, the entire game will be available to all players from launch. Pre-ordering Assassin's Creed Shadows comes with a bonus of the game's first expansion being given away for free.

The Story So Far

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set in feudal Japan and introduces dual protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke. Ubisoft has been showcasing the game’s dynamic weather system and dual-storyline gameplay, building excitement despite recent controversies over historical accuracy. The game will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Amazon Luna.

Ubisoft Addresses Recent Criticism

Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft’s Co-Founder and CEO, addressed some of the recent backlash the company has faced, stating, “We are an entertainment-first company, creating games for the broadest possible audience, and our goal is not to push any specific agenda.” Ubisoft remains committed to making games enjoyable for all players, even as some criticize the historical and creative liberties taken with the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

While the delay may be disappointing to some, Ubisoft is clearly focused on delivering a polished and immersive experience come February.
