Fortnite Players Frustrated After Epic Quietly Removes Mid-Air Healing Mechanic

  • July 22, 2025 (UPDATED: July 22, 2025 12:45 IST)

Fortnite's recent update blocks healing while sliding or jumping. Players call it clunky and want Epic to revert the change or explain the reason.

Fortnite players usually get used to the game’s changes pretty quick, but this time something just feels off. A recent update brought in a change that kind of messed up how folks are used to fighting and surviving, and the strange part is, most of them didn’t even realize it at first. There wasn’t any warning, nothing in the patch notes, but suddenly Epic Games went and made it so you just can’t heal mid-air anymore. Not even when you’re sliding. And now that more people are noticing it, it’s starting to feel like this isn’t just a tiny tweak, it’s a shift that’s really throwing off the rhythm of combat.

The thing that caused it is some internal setting, called Gameplay.Action.Player.BlockWhileFalling. What it does is, it blocks you from using healing stuff, minis, slurps, big pots, unless your character is completely on the ground. And it works like that in all the modes, not just one. There was no clear heads-up, so for a lot of players it was only obvious when they went to heal mid-jump or during a quick slide and nothing happened. That kind of quick, reactive healing? It’s just not working anymore. And that’s the part messing things up, it breaks the fast-paced feel that players got used to.

Community Reactions

People on Reddit and elsewhere have been reacting fast. Some thought their game was bugged or it was just lag. One post said:

“I thought I was going crazy. Revert this change wtf.”

Another mentioned:

“This change is actually insane… now it just feels horrifically clunky since it stops you moving.”

There’s a bunch of competitive players also chiming in, saying this makes it worse in serious fights. Like, if you’re trying to escape and quickly heal, now you’re just stuck standing there, which makes you an easy target. Before, healing while moving gave players more chances to outplay. Now that’s kind of gone.

So What Does It Do to Gameplay?

  • Slower fights: Healing now interrupts your push or rotation
  • High risk: You have to stand still to heal, which can go badly.
  • Lost tactics: Stuff like using grapplers then healing mid-air? That’s not a thing anymore.

Up to now, Epic hasn’t really said if this was on purpose or not. A lot of people are hoping it was just a mistake they’ll fix soon. But if this was an actual design choice, most of the player base isn’t happy with it. Mid-air healing was a huge part of how Fortnite felt. Without it, the game’s just a bit off, and folks are really hoping it goes back to how it was.
