Marvel Rivals drops its Season 3 update, called The Abyss Awakens, and it’s packed with a lot of new things. It feels like a whole relaunch: new heroes, map, battle pass, systems, and meta shake-up

All‑New Content

New Hero: Phoenix

Phoenix appears first at launch, described as a Duelist with fiery ranged attacks and a strong ultimate. Developers said many have waited since she was teased last season 

New Map: Klyntar: Celestial Husk

This is the new Domination map set in symbiote homeworld. It has tight corridors and vertical levels, crowding players together for intense fights 

 

Battle Pass

They call it “Power of the Phoenix.” You get ten costume sets themed around Phoenix and symbiotes. Battle passes now last two months, so they add more Chrono Tokens 

Competitive Mode & Missions

• Rank Reset: Players are dropped seven divisions down: Diamond I goes back to Gold II 
• Rank Rewards: Reaching Gold earns you “Phoenix – Emerald Flames” costume. Platinum/Diamond tiers get new nameplate frames and honor Crests
• Mission Rework: Daily missions removed; weekly missions now carry over mid-season; newly added repeatable Season Missions; removed some hero-specific tasks

New Systems & Integrations

• Accessories Shop: You earn Accessory Points in matches to buy hero-specific accessories 
• Student Perks: You verify your .edu email to get trial access to ten costumes
• UI Refresh: Added new Events tab, improved post-match stats screen
• Discord Integration: Re-link your Discord, get 100 Units, cross-platform chat, and offline messaging support
• Practice Queue: Team captains can queue full team into Doom practice match all at once

Store Additions

• Phoenix Bundles: Chaos Phoenix and Emoji Bundle available.

• New costumes for Scarlet Witch (Immortal Sovereign), Jeff the Land Shark (Sunshine), Invisible Woman (Malice), Rocket (Sunshine Raccoon). Plus upgraded Ultimate VFX for some 

 

Twitch Drops & Tournaments

• Twitch Drops: From July 11 to August 8 UTC you can unlock Hawkeye – Will of Galacta costume by watching .
• Season Championship: Added 10 open qualifiers (min Platinum III), top 3 nameplate designs, more faction slots, verified faction system with icons and name styles .

Fixes & Optimizations

 

• General Improvements: Post-match screen now shows XP, Proficiency, Accessories, Battle Pass and event progress. Gallery now includes Cinematics; MVP animations work with any skin 

 

• Maps & Modes: Fixed terrain clipping and collision issues. Symbiote lifts now work properly 

• Heroes & Balance Changes: Emma Frost: Slight nerf to telepathic Pulse and Diamond form survivability 

• The Thing: New Battle Blitz leap with damage reduction and Haymaker knockdown effect 

• Venom: Control buff with stronger slow effect 

• Duelist changes: Human Torch gets small damage nerf; Iron Man, Loki, Ultron, Mr. Fantastic, Punisher were nerfed; buffs to Venom, Scarlet Witch, Namor, Invisible Woman, Mantis

Team‑ups:

• New: Primal Flame (Phoenix + Wolverine); Ever‑Burning Bond (Human Torch + Spider-Man).

• Adjusted: Symbiote Shenanigans includes Hela; Stark Protocol adds Squirrel Girl.

• Removed: ESU Alumnus and Storming Ignition 

• Console Build: Pushed client reorganization to support smaller updates later; current Season 3 update file is larger .

Season 3 absolutely feels like reboot. Phoenix arrives with fiery flair, symbiote threat grows on Klyntar, plus new team‑ups, rewards, and systems. Rank reset and mission overhaul shakes the meta.
