Indian Gaming League (IGL) has just made an important announcement regarding the future of the platform. The start-up shared that it has just received a “strategic investment” worth $500,000 from Hungama and Hindustan Talkies. In addition, the platform also announced Indian Gaming  League Championship Cup Season 1 and gaming awards. IGL outlined that the Championship Cup will go on for 45-days and interested players can compete across six games. Similar to any other eSports tournaments out there, the IGL Championship Cup also includes “prizes” for the winners. IGL CEO Yash Pariani shared the details around the funding in a statement as part of the announcement. Pariani stated, “Esports is still in its nascency in India. Having Hungama and Hindustan Talkies coming on board will help us reach a larger audience and scale esports to new heights.” He also went on to add that IGL was excited for the “expertise and mentorship” of Hungama and Hindustan Talkies. Indian Gaming League will likely use the funds to get new users as it works on developing new features. For some context, Hungama is a digital entertainment company while Hindustan Talkies is a production house that focuses on movies and digital content.

Neeraj Roy, the Founder, and CEO of Hungama Digital Media also shared his statements on the IGL funding. Roy noted, “We are excited to invest in Indian Gaming League to help the platform grow further and offer gamers in the country a unique competitive experience at a scale that hasn’t been seen before.” Hungama plans to engage “with over 10 million gamers in the next two years”.

The Director of Hindustan Talkies, Ashish Chowdhry also shared his views on the Indian Gaming League funding. According to the statement, “Today, the gaming industry is growing faster than the rest of the entertainment industry and shows no signs of slowing down.” Beyond the statements, IGL has not shared any concrete details around Indian Gaming League Championship Cup Season 1.
