Sega Super Game details

Super Game was first mentioned back in May 2021, during an earnings call of Sega. It was described as a priority with regard to a span of three to five years. During the first three years, the aim was to set the foundations for the Super Game, by strengthening “existing IPs” and expanding them into “large scale global titles”. This also included the development of new FPS titles at European studios, and that would require “proactive investment in the consumer area”. Last year in November, Sega mentioned the possibility of a strategic alliance with Microsoft for the creation of Super Game. The plan also mentioned utilizing technologies like Microsoft’s Azure cloud.

What do we now know about Super Game?

The background is based on creating global content, as mentioned earlier as well. Executive Vice President, Shuji Utsumi’s latest insight reaffirms what was released in May 2021. Utsumi describes Super Game as the “development of AAA rank titles aimed at online and global blockbusters”. He further adds that “In the past, the step was to first launch in Japan and then expand globally. In the future, we will standardize on multi-platform and simultaneous worldwide release.” As a result, it will involve games that are multi-platform and multi-lingual.

Other attributes talked about include its interactivity which is to “go beyond the framework of conventional games”. Efforts that are already in development for this include a system that allows streamers to be able to intervene in the game that they are watching someone else play. Kikuchi adds to this, “In the future, it is natural for the future of games to expand by involving new fields such as cloud gaming and NFT. We are also developing "Super Game" from the perspective of how far different games can be connected to each other.”

How far off in the development process is the Super Game?

Kikuchi mentions that at present, Super Game is already underway with multiple projects. It has also been announced that development will be with the recently launched Unreal Engine 5. However, the team currently consists of about 50 members. They are conducting recruitment drives to finally expand to 100 members.
