World’s Edge, the development team behind Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition, has made the difficult decision to cancel the planned DLC for the game. In a statement shared on the official game website, the developer expressed their deep regret over this outcome, acknowledging the considerable disappointment it would cause to the passionate fanbase of the game. The DLC, which many players had been eagerly awaiting, will no longer be part of the game's future content updates.
Cancellation is as a result of early announcement done early in the year. World's Edge explained that during the excitement surrounding the celebrations for the last year's Age of Empires franchise, the team wanted Age of Empires 3 players to have a feel of the celebrations. In a haste to contribute to the celebration, they announced the DLC content before its full development. This led to the conclusion that the content was not ready for release, and thus the disappointing decision to cancel it.
The developer acknowledged that this was an enormous blow for fans, considering many people had been expecting more content for the game. They also added that there had been a patch at the end of the previous year that provided some updates, but this barely scratched what many players wanted and expected.
Ongoing Game Support and Future Plans
Despite the cancellation of the DLC, World’s Edge reassured fans that Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition would continue to receive ongoing support. The game’s servers will remain operational, and players can expect the rotation of available civilizations in the game’s free trial. For those seeking more content, previously released DLCs from the past few years are still available, offering a wealth of additional material.

First launched in 2020, Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition is available on Steam and Xbox’s PC Game Pass. Although the new DLC may no longer be in the works, fans can still enjoy the game with regular updates and a robust collection of existing downloadable content.
