Doom: The Dark Ages Set to Launch on May 15 with Revamped Combat and Expanded Exploration
This new Doom title allows the player to enjoy a brand new way of fighting, unlike the earlier speed-oriented air battles in the previous titles. The heavier movement controls will be experienced by the player.

This newest entry in ID software's Doom franchise, "Doom: The Dark Ages," releases on May 15, 2025. It will also release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Xbox Game Pass as well.
This new Doom title allows the player to enjoy a brand new way of fighting, unlike the earlier speed-oriented air battles in the previous titles. The heavier movement controls will be experienced by the player, as deliberate combat is given a higher value compared to rapid travels.
The introduction of new melee weapons like a flail, electrified gauntlet, and two-spiked mace is part of this shift. Additionally, the Shield Saw is a double-edged tool, serving as both a defensive device and a means of traversal through the vast areas in the game.
Doom: The Dark Ages Set to Launch on May 15: Wider World and Story
As a sequel to "Doom" from 2016, this is the part that tells stories about the Doom Slayer's history. This game comes with the longest campaign ever produced in the series, which has semi-open world exploration featuring secret caves and mines inspired by dungeons.
The game can be played on those machines of players: a dragon cyborg and an enormous Atlan mech, which will vary gameplay and be friendly to a plot that includes more cutscenes and character building in the background of the hero.
Doom: The Dark Ages Glory Kill System
The revamped Glory Kill system is designed to give more control to the players regarding actions performed without a scripted animation. This will be more effective in making the brutal combats feel more satisfying and flowing with better action control over how enemies are executed. Unsynced and Player-Controlled: As opposed to the pre-programmed animation of Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal, Glory Kills in The Dark Ages are created to be "un-synced" and completely under the player's control. This allows you to open them up and close them more seamlessly.
- Fluid Integration: It is an attempt to make it possible for the player to fluidly switch between melee attacks, shooting, shield play, and Glory Kills without interruption.
- Contextual Finishers: The new system puts more focus on contextual mechanics. For instance, the Shield Saw is now usable as a Glory Kill, such as decapitating a Hell Knight.
- Weapon-Dependent: You could argue that Glory Kills are perhaps more weapon-dependent to what you're equipping yourself with when playing the match.
- Increased Pacing: The revamp appears to be motivated by an intent to provide more consistently paced speed combat rhythm, without the temporary respite of the canned Glory Kill animations.
- Less Gory/Detailed Animations Potential: Initial opinion is that the new system will offer less visceral, less detailed animation than in earlier releases at the cost of detail and gore to provide more emphasis on speed and fluidity over cinematic gibs.
Access and Platforms
Doom: The Dark Ages is going to be widely released. It is going to be launched at the same time across platforms, namely: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with the same day-one launch on Xbox Game Pass, allowing subscribers to enjoy the game without paying an additional fee.
Part of the adventure with Doom: The Dark Ages is that, according to the game, it would redefine fighting systems and, in part, storytelling for the franchise-another experience for both old and new gamers to refresh their eyes on the Doom universe.
