Elden Ring Nightreign maybe gets Two Player Mode After Release

Elden Ring: Nightreign launches May 30, 2025, with solo and three-player co-op modes. A two-player option may be added post-launch, says FromSoftware.

Elden Ring: Nightreign, the new standalone co-op action survival game by FromSoftware, is set to launches on May 30, 2025 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. At its release, it support solo play and three-player co-op, but it doesn’t include a proper two-player mode.

Elden Ring Nightreign Launch Modes

At launch you can go it alone or join up with two friends, but there’s no dedicated duo option. This feels like it was missed in development planning, since many fans asked specifically for a simpler two-person experience.

Director Junya Ishizaki admit that leaving out two-player was an oversight, mostly due to balancing concerns. The team focused on solo and three-player design, and unintentionally neglected the idea of a pair format.

Current Play Options

Right now, if you want to play with just one friend, you still end up with a random third player filling the group. That workaround feels clunky for those who want a true duo.

Potential Post-Launch Update

FromSoftware has long supported its titles with updates that tweak difficulty and add features, so there’s good reason to think a two-player mode could arrive after launch. Players interested in a more flexible co-op setup will have to wait and see how Nightreign evolves.
