The next big update for Genshin Impact is coming soon and if you’re as hyped as we are, you might wanna mark your calendars – the 5.6 update is expected to drop around May 7, 2025. Hoyoverse has been pretty consistent with their release dates, so it looks like we’ll be seeing new content right in the second week of May.
New Characters on the Horizon
This update isn’t just about a new date – it’s bringing some fresh faces too. First up is Escoffier. Leaks first spotted her in a character trailer (we only caught a glimpse of the back of her head) suggest she’s got an Ousia-aligned Cryo Vision. From what we’ve seen in the kit leaks, she seems designed to play a support role that boosts Cryo party members, and while it’s still up in the air if she’s a five-star or not, all signs point to her being the banner’s main attraction.
Then there’s Ifa. Rumoured to be a 4-star character, Ifa is said to wield an Anemo Vision and use a Catalyst – though some chatter online hinted he might even be a bow user, the general consensus seems to lean towards the Catalyst role. He’s also noted for his healing abilities and for boosting his team’s Elemental Mastery. His character’s design gives off a cool vibe as he hails from the Flower-Feather Clan of Natlan.
A New Island and Challenging Bosses
Another exciting part of the update is the new island being added to the map. Some fans are saying it looks pretty similar to the Petrichor region just south of Fontaine. On this island, players will likely face off against a new world boss called the Secret Source Automation: Overseer Device. This boss deals Cryo damage and is weak to Nightsoul’s Blessing, so if you’re gearing up, consider bringing some Natlan characters into your party.
