In the final chapter of the Chronicler of the Crumbling City questline, As the Burning Sun Sears Shadows, players will face their toughest challenge yet. In this quest, you’ll enter the Heart of the Sacred Mountain to cleanse it of Abyssal contamination. Along the way, you’ll fight tough enemies, solve puzzles, and use precise combat skills to succeed. Be prepared for multiple fights against Abyss-influenced foes, requiring well-timed dodges and elemental reactions. Puzzle sections will test your ability to manipulate ancient mechanisms and navigate tricky pathways. To complete the task, focus on characters that have strong elemental synergies, bring a large amount of healing items, and adapt strategy for the given enemy attack. With skill and with consistency you will work through the challenge to cleanse the mountain and bring closure to this chapter of Teyvat history.
Entering the Heart of the Sacred Mountain
The quest begins after you get the Permit to the Heart and purify three contaminated sites. Once you enter the Heart of the Sacred Mountain, you’ll complete two quests: The End of the Road and In Search of a Hidden Heart. Finishing these will officially start As the Burning Sun Sears Shadows, marking the final stage of your journey.
Purifying the First Contaminated Astral Assemblage
Follow the quest marker to find three Tenebrous Mimifloras and defeat them. After the battle, three Abyssal mudballs will appear nearby. To destroy them, you’ll need a Collective of Plenty character like Varesa or Iansan, or use the powerful Tatankasaur transformation. A special charged attack is required to break all three mudballs, which will purify the first Astral Assemblage.
Tackling the Second Contaminated Astral Assemblage
Head to the second marked location, which is heavily covered in Abyssal mudballs. Along the way, you’ll need to destroy more of them. When you arrive, you’ll find a dormant Source Servant Dragon surrounded by even more mudballs. One mudball moves up and down, making it tricky to hit. Be patient and wait for it to lower before attacking with a Tatankasaur’s charged strike. After that, more Abyssal mudballs will appear in the sky. To destroy them, interact with the cannon on the Source Servant Dragon’s head and shoot them down. This will complete the second phase of purification.
The Final Contaminated Astral Assemblage
For the final challenge, navigate a maze filled with enemies and a central Abyssal mudball. First, defeat two Tenebrous Mimifloras to unlock the mudball for destruction. But the challenge isn’t over yet, more mudballs will appear, and two will try to escape. Chase them down, as they lead to the last Astral Assemblage near the teleport point inside the Heart of the Sacred Mountain. A direct ramp will take you to the final purification site. Use a Tatankasaur or a Collective of Plenty character to quickly charge in and destroy the remaining contamination. Once the purification is complete, the quest comes to an end.
Clearing As the Burning Sun Sears Shadows marks the end of the Chronicler of the Crumbling City quest series. However, this is not the end of the adventure. Players can immediately dive into new quests, including An Omen of Annihilation and The Final Entreaty, unlocking even more lore and challenges within Genshin Impact.
