God of War Live-Action Series Confirmed: Everything We Know So Far
Amazon is developing a live-action God of War series with Ronald D. Moore as showrunner, focusing on Kratos' Norse saga.

Amazon Prime Video is developing a live-action version of God of War, one of PlayStation's biggest flagship game series. The show is still in early development. Ronald D. Moore of Battlestar Galactica and Outlander has been confirmed as showrunner.
There's a writers room already in action, and the writing of the script has begun. Amazon is reported to have already ordered two seasons, demonstrating faith in this project.
God of War Series Coming to Prime Video
Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions are producing the live-action series in partnership to make sure that the adaptation honors the source material and reimagines the game's rich world and mythology for the screen.
Instead of lifting the game scene-by-scene, the adaptation will aim to convey cinematic storytelling to an even broader audience, with emotional weight and depth. With Ronald D. Moore attached, the project has a proven creative lead who is a practitioner of character-driven drama on a grand scale.
First released in 2005 by Santa Monica Studio, God of War follows Kratos, a Spartan warrior who defies the gods of Greek mythology. In subsequent games, particularly the 2018 reboot and its follow-up, Ragnarök, we see the story shift to Norse mythology.
Not only did this new story introduce a new, deeper, and more emotional Kratos who travels with his son Atreus, but the franchise is also praised for combining intense action, mythological story lines, and emotional weight.
With Amazon backing the God of War series, viewers can expect a big-budget look like other successful video game adaptations such as The Last of Us and Fallout. With shooting not scheduled until at least 2026, fans can have time to revisit the games and build excitement along the way.
The partnership between Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions shows their seriousness and quality in wanting to bring the legendary franchise to life.
Interestingly enough, the God of War series wants to capture the emotional heft, epic scale, and mythological beauty of the video games more than simply retelling the story.
