Indie JRPG Crossover Infinite Alliance Brings Fan-Favorite Heroes Together Across All Platforms in 2025

Infinite Alliance, a massive indie JRPG crossover, launches in 2025 on PS5, Xbox, Switch 2, PC & more with tactical combat and iconic indie characters.

Critical Games, a not-so-big indie studio, announced their new game Infinite Alliance, a Japanese-style RPG that combines heroes from several indie games into one big story. It will come to a whole lot of platforms like PS5, Xbox Series, PC, Switch, Switch 2, PS4, and also Xbox One, all in 2025. That’s a lot.

This is probably their most ambitious project, or at least the one people are talking about the most. The studio said it’s “a tribute to the indie RPG era,” and fans already seem excited.

A mashup of indie heroes and timelines

Indie JRPG Crossover Infinite Alliance Brings Fan-Favorite Heroes Together Across All Platforms in 2025

The game’s story is kind of wild. A strange event makes timelines collapse or something, and characters from different worlds suddenly all meet up in one place. Some of the games included are OMORI, Sea of Stars, Bug Fables, Chained Echoes, Astlibra Revision, and CrossCode. All of them are playable characters in the game, and each brings their unique abilities into the mix.

The plot, which the devs described as “dimension-breaking”, will offer various routes and endings. It seems like there’s going to be a lot of dialogue and lore, so if you enjoy that stuff, maybe this one is worth keeping an eye on.

Classic gameplay with new mechanics, too

Infinite Alliance uses turn-based combat but with a modern twist. One of the systems, called Unity Chain, lets characters use moves together at the same time for powerful attacks. Players will be able to change up the team and figure out which characters go well with others.

There’s also exploration, puzzle solving, and a lot of side content. The visuals are pixel art, but not old-fashioned—they mix in 3D effects and smooth animation. Emberglow also confirmed there will be English and Japanese voice options, which is a nice touch. The music’s going to be done by some popular indie composers, though names aren’t all known yet.

Coming to all platforms, even older ones

One interesting part is that it’s not just launching new consoles. They’re also putting it out on the PS4 and Xbox One, which many developers are starting to skip. Emberglow said they don’t want people to miss out based on what console they have, so they’re making it as accessible as possible.

The Switch 2 version is expected to have better graphics and load times, but the core content is said to be the same across all versions.

A celebration of indie RPGs coming next year

With so many characters and a story that’s part sci-fi, part fantasy, Infinite Alliance seems like a celebration of the indie RPG scene. It brings together games that meant a lot to players in the past decade and puts them into a shared adventure. It’s bold, a bit unusual, and possibly something fans won’t want to miss.

A playable demo is supposed to drop sometime this summer, with more reveals along the way.
