No Future in Gaming? Chinese League of Legends Player UZI lands Mercedes-Benz G-Class as Gift
Chinese esports star Uzi, a League of Legends legend, receives a custom electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class for his Hall of Legends induction. As gaming continues to break boundaries, this moment highlights just how far esports has come.

There was once a time when the idea of choosing gaming as a career made parents raise their eyebrows. “There’s no future in gaming,” they’d say, worrying that too much screen time would lead nowhere. Fast forward to today, and that idea seems almost laughable. In fact, it’s being rewritten right before our eyes, and nothing proves that better than what just happened to one of China’s most iconic esports players: Jian Zìháo, better known as Uzi.
A legendary bot laner in League of Legends, Uzi is widely celebrated as one of the greatest players in the game’s history. Now, he's about to be officially inducted into Riot Games’ Hall of Legends, making him only the second player ever to receive that honor, following in the footsteps of Korean superstar Faker.
A G-Wagon Gift for League of Legends Pro Player Uzi
To mark the occasion, Mercedes-Benz gifted Uzi something truly extraordinary: a custom electric G-Class SUV, the G 580 with EQ Technology a first of its kind in China. Crafted through the luxury automaker’s Manufaktur customisation programme, the vehicle comes in a striking Kalahari Gold Magno finish, chosen specifically to represent Uzi’s Hall of Legends achievement.
But Mercedes didn’t stop there. They also partnered with a design studio to create a one-of-a-kind artwork featuring Uzi alongside his new G-Wagon in his hometown of Shanghai. The illustration is filled with hidden details and references from Uzi’s incredible career, making it a deeply personal tribute.
While Mercedes-Benz hasn’t disclosed the cost of this exclusive gift, reports from Autoevolution note that the base model of the electric G-Class in the U.S. starts at $161,500—and Uzi’s version is customized beyond that.
This isn’t the first time Mercedes has dived into the world of esports. Over the past few years, the brand has significantly shifted its sponsorship investments from traditional sports to esports, especially League of Legends. As a regular partner of Riot Games, Mercedes continues to align itself with the fast-growing gaming scene, and this gift only cements that relationship further.
A Changing Narrative Around Esports
What was once dismissed as a “waste of time” is now a thriving industry filled with opportunities, recognition, and yes, luxury rewards. Esports has grown to rival and, in some cases, outpace traditional sports in viewership, fan engagement, and sponsorship appeal.
So no, gaming isn’t a dead end anymore. It’s a fast-moving highway filled with rising stars, global admiration, and now, even gold-plated G-Wagons. Uzi’s story may seem extraordinary, but in the future, stories like his may become the new normal.
