Pokemon UNITE Update Brings Latios and Latias on July 21

Pokémon UNITE introduces Legendary duo Latios and Latias on July 21, adding new tactical depth just in time for its anniversary.

Pokemon UNITE is still expanding its options on who can be played and this summer two old favourites in the pantheon of Legendary Pokémon are taking to the skies. Avid gamers will also be ushered in the reunion of the two Eon favorites, Latios and Latias on Hoenn region, on July 21, 2025, in honor of the game that will complete four years in four years.

Although the Pokemon Company has not published the complete chart of in-game abilities of these two, a few preview reviews and feedback in groups indicate that Latios and Latias will add unique tactical value to the battlefield. The two are traditionally known to have a close connection and complementing abilities and are, therefore, likely to present gaming approaches that are poles apart.

Latias will probably perform more support or defensive roles. Latias has previously been seen to be linked to healing powers and defensive actions that may become crowd control, shielding, or sustainment in UNITE. This would cause her to be a useful team composition selection in terms of area control and survival purposes.

Latios, in turn, is expected to represent a high-mobility attacker position. Latios is a fast and attack-oriented Pokemon, and it can evolve into a Speedster or All-Rounder with burst damage that can be applied quickly, which can be a perfect fit for anyone willing to play along with a furious, dare-to-lose playstyle.

Viewers have been speculating wildly on social media sites such as Reddit with one speculating, “Latias feels like just a fun team member without Latios” and others assumed quite dissimilar functionalities in the characters to match their personalities.
They are also likely to be accompanied by themed rewards, sign-on bonuses, and probably a few days of a celebration. To be able to get them, trainers will have to buy Unite Licenses but the actual cost or unlock requirement has not been specified yet.

With expectations growing, the one thing that will happen is that Latios/Latias are sure to bring depth, nostalgia, and novelties in the form of strategic options to the already-diverse Pokemon UNITE roster.
