Quartet, a Retro-Inspired Pixel-Art RPG, Launches on PC August 26
Classic-style RPG Quartet launches August 26 on Steam with 8 heroes, turn-based combat, and nostalgic pixel art in a modern narrative format.

The new game Quartet is set to launch on August 26, 2025, for PC through Steam. Developed by Something Classic Games, the same company that made Shadows of Adam, which was also very classic, this one continues with a similar direction but adds more to the story and structure. The game wants to bring players that retro RPG feeling but with modern bits added into it.
It is inspired by older games like Final Fantasy VI, and Chrono Trigger, clearly seen from the visuals and the type of battle system. Still, it tries to do something else too, not just copy. So it’s retro, but not the same.
Quartet: A Story Told In Parts (But Becomes One)
Quartet doesn't begin like most RPGs. Instead of one hero, it starts with four separate stories. Every story has two characters in it, and they all have their reasons and goals. Later in the game, all of them join into a single big story line that gets more serious the longer it goes.
Throughout the game, you’ll explore several different areas—lush forests, dusty ruins, towns, and others. There is something called ancient technology which seems very important to the overall plot. Some of it doesn’t make sense at first, but slowly more gets revealed. There are also dialogue choices sometimes, and while they don’t change everything, they do lead to slight differences maybe.
It's Turn-Based... but not too simple
Combat in Quartet is based on turns, like traditional RPGs, but it has more going on. Each character is built for certain things—like support or damage—and you can also switch party members in the middle of battle. That gives more strategic ways to play.
Also, there’s a “sync” system where two characters who get close enough can do a combined move together. These combos are useful, especially during boss fights, and they add some emotion since they reflect how the characters grow together.
Nice Pixel Art And A Soundtrack that works
The visuals are pixelated but full of care. Backgrounds are detailed and characters look lively despite the limitations. Portraits pop up during conversations, giving more emotion to dialogue.
The music is by Hiroki Kikuta (he worked on Chrono Trigger) and also Tyler Mire. It’s sometimes calm, sometimes intense, and matches what’s happening in the story.

Steam first - then consoles someday
Quartet will be launching on Steam on August 26. There’s a demo already if you want to check the game out first. Console versions are also being worked on. The developers mentioned Switch and PlayStation coming in 2026, though no exact date yet.
It’s a good one for fans of old-school RPGs or anyone who likes character-heavy stories with turn-based gameplay.
