Close sources of Rockstar reveal Red Dead 2 could receive a next-gen patch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and even a full port on the Nintendo Switch 2. Out possibly before the end of the year. Gamereactor leaked the initial rumors, followed by Push Square and Pure Xbox, and RockstarIntel provided some further speculation regarding Take-Two's re-release plans. 60fps on offer, improved graphics, though whether free… nobody appears to know yet.

RockstarIntel says two websites – Gamereactor and Nintendo – independently heard about a next-gen patch alongside a Switch 2 port. It’s curious because PS5 still runs the PS4 edition at 30fps backwards compatibility, so fans are eager for an upgrade.
Pure Xbox then noted that the Switch 2 release could come “at the same time, or somewhat later” than the PS5/Xbox update. And Push Square says these tidbits came from “people close to Rockstar,” which feels hopeful, but also vague.
Nintendo Switch 2 Port Details
The Switch 2 version is slated before March 31, 2026, fitting Take-Two’s aim to launch four reissues this fiscal year. But this won’t be a lazy port: sources suggest it will leverage Switch 2’s hardware for smoother gameplay, maybe even better textures than the original. Whether it’ll match 60fps on handheld… that’s still a mystery.
