Rockstar Games has officially delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI from fall 2025, as originally expected, to May 26, 2026. The company said it needed more time to maintain the level of quality that we anticipate and demand from our fans.
Rockstar took to Twitter to show thanks for the community's patience and ensured them that the product that does come out will exceed their expectations. But the unhinged side of Reddit started a one-sided roast battle against Rockstar because they had foreseen the delay.
Take-Two Interactive, who owns Rockstar, lost nearly 7% in shares right after the announcement was made. Despite this fact, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick backed up Rockstar's decision, saying the company prioritizes quality over all else in its releases. He also went further to express confidence in the company's upcoming slate such as "Borderlands 4" and the recently unveiled "Mafia: The Old Country", which together should have a bullish impact on revenue in fiscal years to come.
