Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Is Struggling And It’s a Warning Sign for Valorant’s UE5 Future

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers tanks on Steam due to Unreal Engine 5 issues. Could Valorant face the same fate once Riot shifts engines?

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers blew up fast and crashed just as hard. The game hit over 100,000 players on its first day on Steam and became the platform's second best-seller overnight. So, what went wrong for it to end up being rated “Overwhelmingly Negative”, the worst possible score on Steam? The problem lies in its engine: Unreal Engine 5. And if Riot isn’t careful, we might just be watching Valorant’s fate unfold alongside it. Let’s get into it

Why Is Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Getting Rated So Low?

With players tagging LeenZee’s debut game as a UE5 stutter fest, it’s easy to guess what exactly went wrong. The game was a visual mess with players complaining about lagging, frame drops, screen tearing, and even black screens, despite it running on high-end rigs. The graphics were struggling to keep up, leaving the game a disaster and players speechless. One player warned, “The first boss is the loading screen.”

Overall,  Wuchang, despite its flaws, is a genuinely interesting game, set in the late Ming Dynasty, but its unoptimized launch has raised questions, especially for games that haven't made the UE5 switch yet. Games like Valorant, leading players to the next big question

Will Riot Be Able To Optimize Valorant For UE5?

While Riot seems confident that UE5 will only bring positive changes forward, players have been left unconvinced, and seeing Wuchang flop this hard, the red flags seem higher than ever. After all, Valorant is a first-person competitive shooter; every frame counts, and if the UE5 introduces stutter or delay? It’s not just annoying, it’s ranked matches out the window and clutch moments a part of history.

UE5 demands a lot from your system, and it can be used very well if it’s optimized correctly. Even Fortnite had a rocky launch with UE5, especially for lower-spec gamers. Wuchang is just in the worst-case scenario right now, but just because it’s a mess doesn't mean it will end up as a one-hit wonder. Elden Ring’s PC launch was met with similar problems, but they still pulled through and, over time, became a masterpiece. Wuchang could get there too, question is… will Valorant?
