Xbox: New UI To Integrate Steam Games For PC Players - What We Know
A new Xbox UI leak suggests Steam games could be integrated into the Xbox ecosystem. Microsoft deleted the image, but sources confirm an Xbox app update is in the works. Here’s everything we know so far.
Microsoft might have accidentally leaked a whole new Xbox UI which will integrate Steam games. If true, it would be a huge deal for both the PC and the Console Gaming Community. There's a lot to discuss, so let's get into it.
Union of Xbox And Windows
Although Microsoft had mentioned they were going to combine “the best of Xbox and Windows together” most players did not connect the dots. In a blog post about “opening a billion doors” for gaming, Microsoft posted an image which showed a new Xbox UI across multiple devices - TVs, tablets - you name it. However, players quickly noticed something odd. In the UI, steam games were included as well in the UI.
The Leak
Microsoft then deleted the image after ‘The Verge’ inquired about it, indicating, it was not meant to be seen, and possibly is an unintentional leak of an upcoming feature instead!
What It Included
The image had a new Xbox UI In which the steam label was clearly showing. The same UI with the steam mentioned was also shown on the tablet and handheld versions. While the image mentioned appears to be a mock-up, it seems to be a clear leak. According to ‘The Verge’, sources have confirmed Microsoft's plans on working on an Xbox app update. Which will feature every game installed on the PC including games from Steam and epic games as well which Microsoft will label accordingly.
Although this is very exciting news, the question arises on when players can access this feature as well.
When Will It Be Released?
For now, there’s no clear answer for when Xbox UI will integrate itself with Steam games as Microsoft seems to be in the early stages of this update. However, Microsoft gaming CEO Phil Spencer also hinted at EpicGames and Itch.io being able to join Xbox console’s one day, in an interview with Polygon - indicating their interest to develop it further.
