When it comes to real-time strategy games (RTS), Age of Empires is a staple name that has persisted for more than 25 years. It’s a franchise that continues to move forward as it retains its legacy while keeping its content fresh for its loyal community.

Fans of Age of Empires have wanted the series to arrive on Xbox for a long time and it is finally set to happen in January next year. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will be the first game arriving on Xbox consoles and it has a sizable amount of content and features to offer to the Xbox community. AOE II: Definitive Edition has 83 maps, 42 multiplayer civilizations, 10 multiplayer modes, 7 co-op campaigns and a mammoth 34 single-player campaigns to engage in.

Age of Empires, up until now, was purely a PC game and so, a game played traditionally with a keyboard and mouse. Microsoft acknowledged this and has added the option for players to use a keyboard and mouse as inputs for the game on Xbox consoles as well. Players will also enjoy crossplay functionality between Xbox and PC. Unsurprisingly, Age of Empires will also be heading to the Xbox Game Pass as well as Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Microsoft searching for a Genshin Impact-like game for Xbox

Microsoft is out in the market looking for a game like Genshin Impact, as reported by Reuters. Shanghai studio miHoYo’s Genshin Impact is one of the most successful games in recent times which has generated over four billion dollars in revenue in the span of two years. However, Genshin Impact is also the most expensive game ever made in video game history. Regardless, the game’s success and its revenue definitely made up for the costs behind the fantasy game.

Reuters reported that Microsoft wants its own Genshin Impact-like game for Xbox, given that Genshin Impact is a PlayStation console exclusive. Sony partnered with miHoYo when the game was in early development, and also helped the studio bring the game to the market. Genshin Impact is available on PC and mobile as well but when it comes to consoles, it remains a PlayStation exclusive.

Microsoft is scouting the Chinese game industry, looking for a similar success story as it continues to search for new developers to aid and assist. Reuters’ sources also claimed that Microsoft is “wooing even independent studios with big-money offers”.
