First up, the highlight of the list is likely the best video game for 2020. Unsurprising to anyone who has kept an eye on the rest of the “Best of 2020” awards, Hades won the title. BAFTA highlighted the development team at Supergiant Games for crafting this impressive title. Jen Zee from the team also won the Artistic Achievement award for Hades in a separate category. Greg Kasavin won the Best Narrative title from the Supergiant Team. Logan Cunningham won the title of Best Performer in a supporting role for his portrayal of Hades, Achilles, Poseidon, Asterius, Charon, and the Storyteller in the game. Beyond this, Hades also won the title of Best Game Design bringing the total wins to five at BAFTA Game Awards 2021.

The Naughty Dog team at Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) Europe won the Best Animation award for its The Last of Us Part II. Laura Bailey from the team also won the award for Best Performer in a leading role for her work as Abby in the game. The Last of Us Part II also went ahead to win the EE Game of the Year award, the only award selected by the public. This made sure that the title got a total of three awards at the event.

Rev. Dr. Bradley D. Meyer from Sucker Punch Productions at SIE Europe won the Audio Achievement award for his work in Ghost of Tsushima. Going down the list, Ned Waterhouse, Jess Gaskell, and Pete Smith from Sumo Digital Sheffield at SIE Europe won the best British Game for Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Joel Smith, Cesar Bittar, Pete Smith from the team also won the award for the Best Family game at BAFTA Games Awards 2021. The development team at Phobia Games Studio for Devolver Digital got the Best Debut Game for Carrion.

Celebrating the people behind the games

Animal Crossing: New Horizons got two awards including the Best Game Beyond Entertainment and the best Multiplayer game for 2020. Like other awards, the BAFTA team highlighted the work of the development team at Nintendo EPD. The development team at Rare Ltd for Xbox Game Studios got the Best Evolving Game title for Sea of Thieves. John Paesano, Scott Hanau, and Alex Hackford at Insomniac Games for SIE Europe won Best Music in a game award for their work in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
