Cyberpunk 2077: Save file corruption, Death Stranding team-up, likely investor lawsuit, and more

Let us check out everything we know around Cyberpunk 2077 here including the save files corruption, Death Stranding partnership, and more.

Cyberpunk 2077, one of the most hyped games of 2020 recently launched on the global stage across multiple platforms. However, the launch has been far from ideal and we have seen multiple reports regarding issues with the game. These range from multiple game-breaking bugs, crashes, inferior performance on base last-generation consoles, and more. Beyond this, the developer and publisher, CD Projekt Red has not handled the situation in an ideal manner. First up, the company did not share the gameplay footage on Xbox One and PS4 before the launch. Days after the initial reports, the company admitted that it did not focus on the gameplay experience on older consoles.

Later, the company promised refunds before checking in with Sony as PS4 players complained about refund requests. All this prompted Sony to de-list the game and offer complete refunds for a limited period. Now, several new aspects regarding the game have surfaced online. These include some new bugs around the game save files, a content partnership with Death Stranding, and a possible investor lawsuit. In addition, we also got reports where the CD Projekt Red staff asked the management some tough questions after the problematic launch along with information on upcoming content, a free DLC, and more.

The issues highlighted above came after preliminary problems on GOG along with a recording-breaking show on Steam at launch. Let us check out everything we know around Cyberpunk 2077 here including the save files corruption, Death Stranding partnership, and more.

Cyberpunk 2077 game save file corruption, Death Stranding content partnership

As mentioned above, a new report just surfaced outlining a new save file corruption. We first spotted this on the Cyberpunk sub-Reddit where a user “MagicTacoSauce” stated that the save file size “is capped at 8MB”. The user noted that this issue is present on all the platforms and if the file size exceeds 8MB, it will be permanently corrupted.

The issue likely means that the player cannot craft, collect, or complete all the activities present in the game, unlike any other open-world game. In fact, GOG Customer Support asked players to “try to keep a lower amount of items and crafting materials” in the game. It also stated that the developer “might” increase the safe file limit in future updates, but it will not fix the corrupted files from the past. GOG has also posted a dedicated support article on its “Supper Center” for the game. The post also stated that players can check their current save files to keep an eye on the file sizes.

Moving beyond the issue, we also got to know that CD Projekt Red has teamed up with Kojima Productions. As part of the team-up, Kojima Productions is offering free Cyberpunk 2077 content in the game along with a new hacking mechanic. This content is available on the Windows version of the game through Epic Games Store and Steam. The update also comes with several cosmetic items including a Reverse Trike vehicle, Johnny Silverhand-themed arm for Sam Bridges, new holograms, and more. The company has also rolled out “six new missions featuring characters and lore from Cyberpunk 2077.”

Investors may file a lawsuit against CD Projekt Red, the staff asks tough questions

Another report stated that CD Projekt Red could face legal action over the launch of the game. A report fromThe New York Times stated that a Warsaw-based law firm and investor is investigating steps to take legal action against the company. This lawsuit could likely be for “misrepresentation in order to obtain financial benefits” especially considering how the game ran on-base last-generation consoles. Beyond this, a second New York-based law firm is also investigating the company for a potential lawsuit.

Wolf Haldenstein Adler Freeman & Herz LLP stated that it is looking into a securities claim on behalf of the shareholders. As noted in the past, the CD Projekt Red stock share price fell by 15 percent after Sony delisted the game from the PlayStation Store. In addition, the company also admitted that it likely ignored the performance of the game on older consoles.

In addition to the pressure from external sources, the company is also facing flak internally. As per Bloomberg, the staff is asking some difficult questions from the upper management. The developers posted “blunt and pointed” questions to the board of directors regarding the unrealistic deadlines, mandatory crunch, delays, and reputation of the company. Some even asked why the board marked the game completely when it was not and how the company was making a game about corporate exploitation while asking for mandatory crunch.

Cyberpunk 2077 DLC coming in 2021, launch issues on GOG, Steam, and new records

While the company is battling this storm, we also got information regarding the new Cyberpunk 2077 in-game content. According to a hidden message from the launch trailer, we may see a DLC for the game in “early 2021”. The message added, “We’ve mentioned before that expansions will be coming, and while we’re not ready to talk specifics just yet, we will say that we’ve learned a lot from our work on both Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine. Our planned expansions will take you even deeper into the world of Cyberpunk 2077, offering substantial, story-driven content that’ll give you tough choices to make through impactful narratives that you won’t soon forget.”

It continued by adding, “But before we get there, we’ll first be kicking off our free DLC program in early 2021. Just like with The Witcher 3, expect an assortment of free DLC packs to begin hitting Night City, dropping a bunch of cool stuff that’ll inject even more life into the world of the dark future.” This message first surfaced around the launch of the game. It is also worth noting that around the same time, the launch caused some major problems for two of the largest digital game distribution platforms, Steam and GOG.

Steam’s statistics page also noted a peak bandwidth consumption of about 17.7 terabytes per second. Cyberpunk 2077 also broke the record of most concurrent users at the same time on Steam with over 10 lakh players playing the game on the first day. This is more than double the numbers recorded by Fallout 4.
