The company’s reply all but confirms that we’re soon getting our first glance at the future of the Need for Speed franchise.

Need for Speed Unbound

Initially, it was Tom Henderson for Insider Gaming who reported that EA is planning on revealing the next Need for Speed soon. His report from September 29 claimed that the reveal will happen within a couple of weeks. EA’s tweet at this lines up with that timeline so far. Henderson also reported that EA are planning to release the game on December 2, 2022. As per the report, the next NFS title has been named Need for Speed Unbound but there’s no confirmation for that as of yet.

What we know about the next NFS game

NFS Unbound will having a heavy focus on multiplayer this time around and there will be a new feature called “meetups” to support that. This “meetups” feature will let players race each other at different locations on the map. Speaking of which, there will be a unique map this time around in NFS and totally different from what we’ve seen so far in NFS, as per Henderson.

Need for Speed Unbound will be arriving for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as well as for PC whenever it does arrive. The game was supposed to be unveiled back in July as per the report but there have been unexplained setbacks in the project so far. We also covered the news about a release for the NFS game in November and it remains to be seen if the game does push further back to December or not.

It’s Criterion, developers of Burnout series, who are back to create an NFS game. NFS did deal with a leak sometime before when brief footage of gameplay was making the rounds on the internet. It showed a car trying to vault through a circular object but failed and instead crashed into the obstacle. There were several anime elements all around the car when it failed which does confirm earlier reports that Criterion is looking to integrate anime and cartoon effects with high-quality graphics.
