After an exciting Preliminary Stage, the Goldmoney Asian Rapid for Meltwater Champions Chess Tour is set to start its Quarterfinals. Here top eight players from the previous stage will compete for the top four spots for the semifinals stage. Play Magnus Group has split the Quarterfinals over two days while deciding the pairing on the Preliminaries. Each pair will compete through a four-game match on the first day to offer enough scope for improvements and comebacks. Quarterfinals Day 1 for Goldmoney Asian Rapid Day happening today; details
Let’s talk about the parings that Chess fans will see on the first day of the Quarterfinals. As we saw in the final standings after the preliminary stage, Levon Aronian will play against Arjun Erigaisi. This means that the table topper will compete with the player on the bottom of the lot. Other pairings include Grandmaster Vladislav Artemiev will compete with Grandmaster Anish Giri.
The third match of the day will see Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen compete with his rival Grandmaster, Wesley So. Finally, the last match for the day will happen between Ding Liren and Jan-Krzysztof Duda. These matches will follow a similar point system to rank all the players based on their performance throughout the day. Like the Prelims, the Quarterfinals will cut the playing field by half to filter the top four players from the playing 8.
