Last week’s massive leak of Rockstar Games and Take Two’s upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI’s gameplay ended up shaking the entire gaming community. While we are all waiting for news on the perpetrator(s), heroes for some, villains for others, there are in fact some new developments around these events. At the same time, Rockstar Games is in the discussion for another reason as well. Rockstar and 2k, infamous for taking down modders working on their games, especially GTA, is now suspected to be conducting a crackdown on content on GTA 4. GTA VI Leak- Latest developments
Following statements from Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive, there have been reports of the London Police arresting a 17-year-old. It was later reported by journalist Matthew Keys that the arrest was related to the Rockstar Games hack. However, even though media outlets have reached out to both the developers and the publishers regarding the arrest, they still haven’t shared anything official. Here’s more context on the hackers.

Events leading up to the GTA VI Leak arrest
Soon after ‘Teapot Uber Hacker’ shared gameplay videos of GTA VI in development, they revealed that they had earlier hacked into Uber's security systems as well. This time, they informed that they are looking for negotiations of nothing below “five figures”, with source codes of GTA V and GTA VI as the stakes. While the London City Police is investigating Rockstar’s data breach, Uber on the other hand, has involved the FBI. Uber has also claimed that Lapsus$ is responsible- the notorious group of hackers known for some of the biggest security breaches of the year, including Nvidia, Microsoft, and Ubisoft.
The City of London police has however declined to divulge the exact incident which led to the arrest of the 17-year-old from Oxfordshire. Regardless, if Lapsus$ is indeed behind the Uber hack, we know that Rockstar and Take Two too have become victims to the antics of this notorious group. The suspect under arrest, now continues to be in police custody as per the latest reports. However, investigations have already hinted that it was the handiwork of more than one person- two at the least. Therefore, investigations are not going to stop with this one arrest any time soon.
Other news- GTA IV DEP gets DMCA notice
As for Rockstar Games, soon after they acknowledge their security breach, they locked comments on their social media platforms. But, in another move, they have been focusing on continuing to send out DMCA notices to modders using their content. This time, it’s a crackdown on GTA IV modders- the GTA IV Definitive Edition Project has received a DMCA takedown notice from either Rockstar or its affiliate company. The DEP’s authors reportedly received the notice a day before the gameplay of GTA VI leaked online. The developers and publishers are yet to acknowledge that they issued the DMCA notice on grounds of copyright infringement. As a result, several members from the community have been speculating that it may have originated due to the hack itself.

Either way, Rockstar however is no stranger to issuing DMCA notices to modders, asking them to take down their content. But analysts have to say that that is due to them clearing out the way for new exclusives coming from Rockstar, that is GTA VI to be more specific. As for the development of GTA VI, Rockstar has informed in their statement that it will “continue as planned”. They further added that they don’t anticipate any further disruptions to their live game services either.
