Toy-making giant Hasbro recently announced a new version of its popular board game Monopoly in India. The company has called this updated version “Monopoly Super Electronic Banking Edition game”. Though it is not really a video game or an e-sports title, the technical details and the evolution of a traditional board-game do make it intriguing. The evolution pushes the old game of Monopoly to a modern, electronics card-based game. As per the announcement, Hasbro noted that the new edition of the game is available for sale on Amazon India. The company has priced this version at Rs 2,699 due to the newer, electronic components. The most important change or rather addition that this banking edition brings is a new “electronic banking unit”. It features “tap technology” to make the gameplay considerably fast. Unlike past games, this edition does not feature any paper money. Instead, it uses newer electronic cards along with the banking unit to keep track of the cash that each player won.
The company has ensured that each token has a corresponding electronic card along with unique rewards for actions. For instance, players can win rewards if they roll a particular number, land on a specific space, or buy a particular property. Most of the rules in this Super Electronic Banking Edition are like a traditional Monopoly game. However, Harbro did make one change in the rules to make things more contemporary. As per the announcement, players no longer need to purchase railroads to any property on the board. Instead, they can simply choose to fly to any property and make their move.
Revisiting the rules of Monopoly, players need to purchase properties available on the board and collect rent. More rent collection means more cash for the player and more rewards. The player needs to ensure that the rivals are bankrupt and have less money than them. The player with the most amount of money wins the game.
